Bell and Beacon Mural

Partially painted by Zion Gifford

  • To me, the mural stands for community. We chose to feature icons of Valpo, like the Victory Bell, but also of the campus’ nature, like Merlin, and surrounding communities, like Valpo’s love of popcorn. Since the Bell & Beacon is a place where students come to socialize and be together, I wanted it to make people feel like they are a part of something. That was one of the major reasons I wanted to contribute to this project.”

  • This photo booth wrap design was inspired by the Bauhaus movement. It utilizes Bauhaus’ “less is more” aesthetic using clean lines and simple shapes to reduce all forms to their essential elements. Originally I took inspiration from 50s-60s classic cars and their bright, metallic colors which were usually accompanied by chrome trim. But because there wasn’t much to work with using just the color scheme alone, I began experimenting with a series of rectangles and quarter circles to create the ‘tube-like’ shapes you see now. The end goal was to create a design with simple/repetitive shapes that would wrap around the booth in no particular order. Connecting, repetitive shapes and color scheme is what I focused on in order to give the photo booth a sense of cohesiveness.
